CO2 laser cutting harnesses a high-energy laser beam to precisely heat and vaporize materials, facilitating efficient and accurate cuts. This non-contact machining process is primarily utilized for cutting and engraving non-metals, though with a sufficiently powerful CO2 laser, it can also cut metals.


The process involves the absorption of laser beam energy by the material, which raises its temperature to the point of burning, melting, and vaporization. Control over parameters such as laser power, cutting speed, and intensity enables the customization of cuts across various materials.

 

CNC Laser Cutter: How Does it Work?

A CNC laser cutter is a computer numerical control (CNC) device that utilizes a concentrated, high-powered laser beam to mark, cut, or engrave materials, creating bespoke shapes. Its precision is exceptional, particularly for intricate shapes and small perforations, owing to its specialized design and operation.


A CNC laser cutter features a laser head containing a laser focusing lens and a nozzle. Through the nozzle, this head and lens assembly focuses a laser beam — a column of very high-intensity light ㅡ on the workpiece, melting and cutting the workpiece to form the desired shape. CNC lasers employ compressed gas (also flowing through the nozzle that ejects the laser beam) to cool the focusing lens and expel the vaporized metal out of the workpiece.
